Gaddar Awards to Debut This Ugadi, Honoring Excellence in Arts and Cinema
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had previously announced the introduction of the “Gaddar Awards” to recognize individuals who have excelled in the fields of arts and cinema. The first edition of these prestigious awards is set to be presented this Ugadi, marking a significant milestone in the state’s cultural recognition efforts.
On Saturday, the Gaddar Awards Committee, led by B. Narsing Rao, along with Telugu Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju, met with Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to finalize the rules, guidelines, logo design, and other crucial aspects of the awards.
During the meeting, the committee proposed the introduction of a Golden Momento for the Best Feature Film, along with a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs. The Second Best Feature Film would receive a Silver Momento with a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakhs. Other awards, however, will not have cash prizes attached.
The Gaddar Awards will cover various categories, including 49 for feature films, 6 for children’s films, 2 for critics of Telugu films, and 2 for books on Telugu cinema.
In response to the committee’s proposal, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the committee to organize the event on a grand scale, aiming to make it comparable to national award ceremonies, and to elevate the prestige of the awards to a national level. This initiative is expected to highlight the contributions of the Telugu film industry and recognize talent across a broad spectrum of creative fields.
