Beauty Review: Strong Message, Weak Execution
Beauty, directed by Vardhan and presented by Maruthi, is a romantic family drama starring Ankith Koyya, Nilakhi Patra, Naresh, and Vasuki. With its promise of a strong social message, the film hit the screens today. Does it deliver?
Plot
Alekhya (Nilakhi Patra), a middle-class girl, falls in love with Arjun (Ankith Koyya). Trouble begins when her mother (Vasuki) catches her in a bold video call with him. Shocked and furious, she thrashes her daughter, after which Alekhya elopes with Arjun, leaving her family heartbroken. Her father (Naresh) sets out to bring her back, only to discover that she has fallen into deeper trouble. How Alekhya faces these challenges forms the rest of the story.
Performances
Nilakhi Patra is the soul of Beauty. She convincingly portrays a bold, rebellious young woman caught between emotions and mistakes. Ankith Koyya struggles in the first half but improves later. Vasuki stands out in emotional scenes, while Naresh plays the concerned father well, though without freshness.
Technical Side
Cinematography by Shrie Sai Kumaar Daara is decent, but the editing falters in the first half. Production values and dialogues are serviceable. The story itself is routine, though a well-placed twist in the second half brings some surprise.
What Works
- Nilakhi Patra’s performance
- Emotional family conflict
- Unexpected twist in the climax
What Doesn’t
- Weak and boring first half
- Routine melodrama
- Forced romantic track
Verdict
Beauty carries a relevant message for parents about guiding today’s youth, but the narration feels outdated and overly dramatic. The love story in the first half drags, while some romantic scenes feel exaggerated. Thankfully, the twist in the second half provides some grip and ensures the film ends on a stronger note.
Bottom Line: A routine drama elevated slightly by its twist and Nilakhi Patra’s performance.
