Madras High Court Dismisses Tamannaah’s ₹1 Cr Appeal in Power Soaps Case

The Madras High Court has dismissed actor Tamannaah Bhatia’s appeal seeking ₹1 crore in compensation from Power Soaps Limited over the alleged unauthorized use of her images.

A division bench comprising Justices P. Velmurugan and K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi upheld the earlier ruling, stating that the actor failed to provide credible evidence to substantiate her claims. The court observed that there was no merit in the appeal and concluded that Tamannaah had not been able to establish her case.

The dispute dates back to 2008, when Tamannaah entered into an endorsement agreement with Power Soaps Limited. As per the contract, the company was permitted to use her images for one year, until October 2009. However, she alleged that her photographs continued to appear on product packaging and advertisements during 2010 and 2011 without her consent.

She argued that this alleged unauthorized usage violated the agreement and impacted her professional opportunities, particularly during negotiations with competing brands at the time. Tamannaah had sought ₹1 crore in damages along with a permanent injunction to prevent further use of her images.

However, the court noted that the evidence submitted—including product wrappers, purchase documents, and online listings—was not sufficient or reliable to prove continued usage beyond the agreed contract period.

With the division bench agreeing with the earlier judgment, the appeal was dismissed, effectively bringing an end to Tamannaah Bhatia’s compensation claim.
