The Bengaluru City Civil and Sessions Court has instructed prison authorities to ensure actor Darshan receives basic comforts as per prison regulations.
Darshan, currently jailed in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy—who was accused of cyberbullying his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda—had raised concerns about inhumane treatment in prison. During the hearing, he described being confined in a dark cell for a month without sunlight, forced to sleep on a mat, served unhygienic food, and suffering from a fungal infection. He reportedly pleaded for poison in a moment of distress.
The court rejected jail officials’ request to transfer him from Bengaluru to Ballari, stating no valid reason was provided. While Darshan’s plea for extreme relief was denied, the judge assured that he would receive fair treatment.
Following the hearing, the court ordered that Darshan be provided a bed, pillow, and daily corridor walks. This incident highlights the harsh realities of prison life for those detained under serious charges.
The order comes after the Supreme Court had earlier canceled Darshan’s bail due to images showing him allegedly enjoying undue privileges in prison. Subsequently, jail authorities reportedly placed him in strict isolation.
