Gaurav Jaisingh, a final-year student at Bentley University, Massachusetts, tragically passed away in the Bahamas just days before his scheduled graduation. The 21-year-old, originally from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, was on an annual senior class trip when the incident occurred.
According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the incident took place on Sunday evening at a hotel on Paradise Island. Initial reports suggest that Jaisingh was in his room with fellow students when he accidentally fell from an upper-level balcony. Emergency medical services responded swiftly and transported him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead while en route. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Jaisingh was an active member of the Bentley community, affiliated with the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity and the South Asian Students Association. The university expressed profound grief over the loss, sharing a statement on social media platform X:
“It’s been a difficult few days, and our community is feeling the emotional toll of the tragic loss of Gaurav Jaisingh ’25. Our hearts go out to Gaurav’s family and friends. We plan to honour Gaurav at the undergraduate commencement ceremony.”
In a statement to ABC News, the university further noted:
“While local authorities are investigating, it appears Gaurav accidentally fell from a balcony. We will share more information when available while respecting his family’s privacy. This is an enormous tragedy for our community.”
Bentley University has made counselling services available to students, faculty, and staff affected by the loss.
The Jaisingh family and loved ones have requested privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
