Benz: LCU Prequel to Leo Explores Leo Das’s Dark Past

The Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) is all set to expand once again — this time with Benz, a riveting prequel to Thalapathy Vijay’s blockbuster Leo. The film, starring Raghava Lawrence and Nivin Pauly, has already become the center of buzz for exploring Leo Das’s dark and untold past.

Directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan, Benz dives deep into the events that shaped Leo’s transformation, with Madonna Sebastian reprising her role as Elisa Das, seamlessly connecting it to the Leo timeline.

The movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast, featuring Samyuktha Menon, Priyanka Mohan, and Narain — the latter renowned for his roles in Kaithi and Vikram. Adding to the intrigue, Nivin Pauly takes a bold leap as the menacing antagonist Walter, marking a striking shift from his usual on-screen persona.

Although Lokesh Kanagaraj isn’t directing this chapter, he’s overseeing the story and screenplay, ensuring Benz stays true to the signature LCU tone, style, and interconnected storytelling. This makes Benz the first LCU film not directed by Lokesh, yet one that firmly expands his cinematic universe.

Filming for Benz began in May 2025, with the first schedule wrapped by June. The music is composed by Sai Abhyankkar, and the post-theatrical rights have been acquired by Netflix for a record price, highlighting the massive anticipation around the project.

Touted as an action-packed emotional thriller, Benz is set to enrich the LCU mythology, introducing new layers, characters, and story arcs that could shape the universe’s future. With Lokesh’s creative supervision, a stellar cast, and a story that bridges the emotional depth of Leo with the grit of Kaithi and Vikram, Benz is gearing up to redefine the legacy of the LCU.
