Is Bhaagamathie Too Violent for Telugu Audience?

There had been many speculations doing rounds about the genre of Sweety Anushka’s upcoming film, ‘Bhaagamathie’. The heroine-centric film was first assumed to be a historical one. Later, reports came that it would be a thriller. The film’s first look poster that was unveiled some time ago, hinted that it could be a horror thriller. Now, as the film’s 30-second teaser is out, it is almost certain that Bhaagamathie is going to be a spooky and gory horror drama.

Without giving any clue about the story or the backdrop, the makers just showed a spooky bungalow and the stirring visuals of Anuhska herself nailing her hand to the wall. Considering the sensibilities of Telugu audience, filmmakers generally don’t dare to show gore on screen. In this teaser however, a heroine as sweet as Anushka herself was shown involved in a spine-chillingly violent act. The teaser hinted that Bhaagamathie is going to be even spookier and gorier than Anushka’s industry hit, ‘Arundhathi’. Can the audience see so much gore, especially when Anushka herself is involved?

The film is bankrolled by UV Creations, who, by scoring continuous hits, have proved that they know the pulse of audience. These calculated producers wouldn’t invest an amount as huge as Rs 30 Cr if not they had a solid subject in hand. Although director Ashok doesn’t have laudable track record, Anushka’s brand and the credibility of UV Creations are the biggest factors that make Bhaagamathie a film to watch out for. And, the teaser has just raised the expectations on the film.

Bhaagamathie is slated for worldwide release on January 26, 2018. We need to see how audience receive this gory horror film starring Anushka? If it succeeds, we can expect more such films to come.
