Until the 2019 elections, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy enjoyed the unwavering support of the entire YS family, including his mother Vijayamma and sister Sharmila. Sharmila, in particular, actively campaigned for her brother and managed party activities while Jagan was in jail, earning widespread praise for her dedication.
However, due to business disagreements and subsequent fallouts, Jagan gradually distanced himself from Sharmila and Vijayamma, even filing complaints against them. This rift eventually led Sharmila to take a political stand against Jagan by leading the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh.
With limited trusted allies left in the party, Jagan now appears to be relying heavily on his wife, Bharathi Reddy, to manage the YSR Congress Party (YCP). Reports from leading Telugu media indicate that Bharathi, traditionally removed from direct political engagements, is now actively communicating with top party leaders, often over the phone, discussing party matters and strategy.
Her growing involvement comes against the backdrop of ongoing controversies in Andhra Pradesh, including the liquor scam and speculation about the possible implications for Jagan. Observers suggest that Bharathi’s active role may be aimed at streamlining party operations during these challenging times.
Previously focused primarily on business affairs linked to Jagan, Bharathi’s transition into the political domain marks a significant shift. Her elevated presence in the YCP hierarchy is being cited as a strategic move, consolidating leadership and ensuring continuity within the party as it navigates internal and external challenges.
