The proposed Bhogapuram International Airport is poised to become a major catalyst for the economic development of the North Andhra region. Recognizing its strategic importance, the NDA coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, with active support from the Central government, has been making relentless efforts to ensure that the airport becomes operational by 2026.
With TDP MP and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu at the helm of the Civil Aviation Ministry, the pace of work at Bhogapuram has gathered significant momentum over the past 18 months. Since assuming office, the minister has accorded top priority to the project, conducting frequent progress reviews and announcing well in advance that the airport would be inaugurated by June 2026.
Marking a crucial milestone, the final test run of Bhogapuram International Airport is scheduled for January 4. As part of the trial operations, an Air India flight from Delhi will land at the new airport at 11:00 AM. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, along with senior officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), will be onboard the flight to assess the airport’s operational preparedness ahead of the deadline
Currently, nearly 95 percent of the project work has been completed. The remaining activities are expected to be wrapped up over the next few months, paving the way for regular commercial operations to begin in August, following the official launch in June. In preparation for full-scale operations, the Civil Aviation Ministry and the DGCA are also likely to hold consultations with airline operators that will be flying from the airport.
Once Bhogapuram International Airport becomes operational, it will stand as a significant achievement for both Ram Mohan Naidu and the Andhra Pradesh government, as the ambitious project would have been realized within just two years of the NDA coalition coming to power.
Adding to the region’s aviation ecosystem, Ram Mohan Naidu recently announced that the Centre, in coordination with the Andhra Pradesh government, has decided to establish an Aviation University near the international airport within the next six months.
