Prabhas–Prasanth Varma’s Raka Set to Be Mythological Spectacle
Tollywood star Prabhas is currently one of the busiest actors in Indian cinema, with a line-up of high-profile projects that will keep him occupied for the next several years. The pan-India superstar is simultaneously shooting for The Raja Saab and Fauji, while his landmark 25th film, Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, is also on the horizon. In addition, sequels to Salaar and Kalki are in the pipeline, further cementing his packed schedule.
Amid this hectic lineup, a much-discussed collaboration between Prabhas and Hanu-Man director Prasanth Varma has caught industry attention. The project, tentatively titled Raka, is said to be a mythological spectacle based on the legendary tale of Bakasura. If realized, it will reportedly be part of the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) and produced by Hombale Films, which has signed a three-film deal with Prabhas. Rising actress Bhagyashri Borse is rumored to be in talks to play the female lead.
Speaking on the sidelines of the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) 2025 at the Dubai Exhibition Centre, Prasanth Varma teased the ambitious project. Without directly naming Prabhas, he said, “Be prepared, whenever the actor gives the dates, we are ready to shoot.” His remarks have only heightened curiosity about when Prabhas will be able to accommodate the project, given his existing commitments. Notably, he is expected to dedicate himself entirely to Spirit once it goes on floors, to maintain continuity in his look and character.
Following the global success of Hanu-Man, the news of Prabhas teaming up with Prasanth Varma has sparked tremendous excitement among fans. Adding to the buzz, Varma was recently honored with the Best Director (Critics) award on the first day of SIIMA 2025, further validating his rising stature as one of the most innovative filmmakers in Indian cinema.
