The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to elect its new National President, with speculations rife that the official announcement may come on March 15. As the political corridors in New Delhi remain abuzz, the party has intensified its groundwork to finalize the next leader who will succeed JP Nadda.
Reports suggest that BJP is inclined towards appointing a leader from the South this time, aiming to strengthen its presence in Telangana and Karnataka, where Congress currently holds power. Among the frontrunners for the prestigious position are G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar from Telangana, and Prahlad Joshi from Karnataka. Additionally, Dharmendra Pradhan and Bhupender Yadav are also in contention for the top post.
Sources indicate that the RSS, BJP’s ideological backbone, has already approved the candidate, and an official confirmation is expected soon. However, there remains a possibility of a last-minute surprise entry, with names like Manohar Lal Khattar and Manoj Sinha also being considered. The presidential election was initially slated for January, but it was postponed due to the Delhi Assembly elections.
Both Kishan Reddy (currently serving as the Minister of Coal & Mines) and Bandi Sanjay (Minister of State for Home Affairs) have strong RSS roots and enjoy the backing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With BJP determined to dethrone Congress in Telangana in the next general elections, appointing either of these Telugu leaders could boost the party’s strength in the region.
If BJP picks Kishan Reddy or Bandi Sanjay, it would mark the third time a Telugu leader takes charge of the saffron party, following in the footsteps of Bangaru Laxman and M. Venkaiah Naidu. As March 15 approaches, all eyes are on BJP’s strategic move—will a Telugu leader rise to lead the Lotus party once again?
