BJP toeing TDP line in Andhra?

It looks like the Bharatiya Janata Party has given up its strong anti-Telugu Desam Party stand in Andhra Pradesh, ever since senior TDP leaders and Rajya Sabha MPs Y S Chowdary, T G Venkatesh and C M Ramesh joined the saffron party.

The party appears to be going soft towards the TDP and instead, focussing on targeting the two-and-a-half months old YSR Congress party government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

It was evident from the aggressive posture taken up by the party at its state executive meeting held in Vijayawada on Sunday. AP BJP in-charge Sunil Deodhar, president Kanna Lakshminarayana, MPs G V L Narasimha Rao, Y Sujana Chowdary, C M Ramesh, senior leaders K Hari Babu, G Manikyala Rao, S Veerraju and several leaders attended the meeting.

The party has decided to stage a massive dharna at Gurazala in Guntur district on August 16 against the alleged “anti-people policies of the YSRC government.”Kanna Lakshminarayana allegd that Jagan Mohan Reddy government had been taking several wrong decisions and running a poor administration in the state.

”Decisions like proposed closure of fair price shops, closure of Anna Canteens and retrenching several existing government employees did not go down well with people,” he said.He further said the mal-administration at the grassroots level had proved that the state was pursuing a direction-less rule. The drought of Rayalaseema has also has not been addressed.

“We wanted to give six months’ time to Jagan Mohan Reddy government before criticising them for his follies but we have decided that we cannot wait. The two-month rule has proved that Andhra Pradesh is going backwards,” he said.

He said the harassment of opposition political workers and leaders increased in villages soon after YSRCP assumed power. He said the sand scarcity has severely hit the real estate sector and several building workers were on the roads for want to work.”Workers have become debt-ridden owing to a halt in construction activity in the state because of the scarcity of sand,” he said.

He said the state BJP would stage protests against the anti-people policies of the YSRCP government across the state besides conducting a campaign to explain the significance of abrogation of Article 370 to people at grassroots level.
