A powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening left at least thirteen people dead and a dozen others injured, causing widespread panic across the national capital. The victims were rushed to LNJP Hospital for treatment.
Authorities in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai immediately issued a high alert following the blast. According to the Delhi Fire Department, several blast-like sounds were reported before emergency services received calls about a car explosion, which also led to fires in three additional vehicles. Seven fire engines were dispatched to the site.
In the initial investigation, Delhi Police confirmed that a parked car had exploded and senior officers have reached the spot. The explosion occurred in Old Delhi, one of the most crowded areas near the Red Fort.
While details about the extent of the damage are still emerging, several reports and social media posts are suggesting a possible terror angle, though authorities have not officially confirmed this. The Delhi Police Special Cell has cordoned off the area and is investigating the incident.
