Bollywood is preparing for one of its most ambitious cinematic projects with a grand adaptation of the Hindu epic Ramayana. Revered by over 2.5 billion people across the world, this legendary tale is being brought to the big screen in a massive two-part live-action format. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with the Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG and Yash’s production house Monster Mind Creations, the film promises a rich blend of mythology and cutting-edge technology.

Set 5,000 years ago, the film is being made for an IMAX release, with Part 1 scheduled for Diwali 2026 and Part 2 for Diwali 2027. The project recently made waves with the launch of Ramayana: The Introduction, a first-look teaser revealed with grandeur across nine Indian cities and even showcased on a huge billboard in Times Square, New York — highlighting its global vision.

The casting is star-studded. Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash portrays the antagonist Ravana while also serving as a co-producer, Sunny Deol appears as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey takes on the role of Lakshmana. The film aims to go beyond merely narrating the age-old story; it seeks to reintroduce India’s spiritual and cultural essence to the world through emotionally powerful storytelling and top-tier cinematic techniques.

According to producer Namit Malhotra, the biggest challenge lies in striking the right balance — maintaining the mythological authenticity while embracing modern filmmaking tools. As expectations rise, this adaptation of Ramayana is poised to become a landmark in Indian cinema, blending tradition and technology on a global stage.
