The Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea challenging the release of Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s courtroom drama Jolly LLB 3, which alleged that the film mocked judges and lawyers. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, noted that the judiciary was accustomed to such portrayals and stated, “Don’t worry about us.”
The petition, filed by the Association for Aiding Justice through advocate Chandrakant Gaikwad, sought a stay on the film’s release and the deletion of the song ‘Bhai Vakeel Hai’, claiming it was derogatory toward the legal profession. Petitioner’s lawyer Dipesh Siroya argued that the movie and the song insulted judges, highlighting a scene where judges are referred to as “mamu,” a slang he deemed disrespectful.
The court, however, dismissed the plea, noting that it had seen similar complaints before and was not concerned. The filmmakers also informed the bench that a similar plea in the Allahabad High Court had been rejected. Jolly LLB 3 is scheduled to release on September 19.
