The internal family feud within Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) continues to intensify, with party president and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) caught in a tussle between his son K T Rama Rao (KTR) and daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha. Sources reveal that KTR firmly opposes giving Kavitha any significant role in the state-level party affairs.
During a recent meeting at KCR’s Erravelli farmhouse, KTR made it clear to his father that while he has no objection to Kavitha being considered for a future Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha seat, she should not be involved in Telangana’s state politics.
In an effort to resolve the conflict, KCR sent two trusted aides — Rajya Sabha MP D Damodar Rao and senior advocate Gandra Mohan Rao — to negotiate with Kavitha and convince her to step back from her current rebellious stance. The emissaries conveyed KCR’s assurances that Kavitha’s political future would be secure and promised her a ticket for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. They also expressed concern over the damage the ongoing infighting could cause to the party and warned against members acting independently.
However, Kavitha reportedly rejected these overtures outright, demanding immediate clarity on her position within the party. She is determined to remain active in Telangana politics and has no intention of shifting her focus to Delhi. She also highlighted that in the previous Lok Sabha elections, KTR’s supporters had contributed significantly to her defeat in Nizamabad.
During the talks, the emissaries facilitated a phone call between Kavitha and KCR, where the party chief advised her to be patient and not rush into seeking positions. Despite this, Kavitha remained steadfast.
Reports suggest that Kavitha is standing firm on several key issues. She has requested clear assurances about her role within the party and government should BRS return to power, especially given the strong possibility of KTR becoming the chief minister. She insists on concrete commitments now, warning that without such clarity, she will pursue her own independent path.
