Telangana Govt Introduces Gaddar Awards for Cinema Excellence
After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the Nandi Awards were discontinued, and the Telangana government, under the previous BRS regime, did not introduce any alternative film awards in its decade-long tenure. However, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has been determined to change this right from the beginning of his administration.
Thanks to the CM’s persistence, the Telangana government has now officially initiated the Gaddar Awards, an initiative that has been under discussion for quite some time. According to an official announcement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today, the inaugural Gaddar Awards will be held in April 2024, and nominations will open on March 13.
The awards will recognize cinematic excellence across multiple categories, including Feature Films, National Integration Film, Children’s Film, Film on Environment/Heritage/History, Debut Feature Film, Animated Film, Social Impact Film, Documentary Films, and Short Films. The Gaddar Awards will honor films and content released between 2014 and 2023, with one winning entry selected from each year. Filmmakers and content creators can submit their nominations through the Telangana Film Development Corporation starting March 13.
With Revanth Reddy’s strong commitment to this initiative, the awards are expected to be conducted in a grand and prestigious manner. The inclusion of feature films and short films in the awards is set to generate significant interest. Given the CM’s personal involvement, there is speculation that the event will attract some of Tollywood’s biggest stars, making it one of Telangana’s most anticipated cultural celebrations.
