Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has flagged off the Amaravati farmers’ Singapore tour, a state govt-sponsored initiative which sends over 120 farmers to Singapore so they can learn the best ways to invest their new-found wealth.
A total of 123 farmers among around 26,000 farmers who gave up around 33,000 acres of land for the construction of capital city, have been selected through a draw of lots to be sent to Singapore in order to learn entrepreneurial skills. The state government funds Rs. 40 lakh for the farmers’ tour.
The first batch of 34 farmers left for Singapore on Monday. The 123 farmers will be sent in four batches. On the eve, Naidu said that the purpose of the farmers’ tour is that they learn from Singapore how to invest their new-found wealth (in exchange for their land) so that Amravati can become another Singapore.
