The corona epidemic is having a severe impact on billions of families. Many people lost their livelihood due to the corona. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) on corona patients continues to rise. GST of 6 to 18 percent is levied on all medicines and equipment used in the treatment of covid patients. For those admitted to hospitals with corona, the burden of incurring GST in addition to medical treatment can be as high as 15 percent.
Several states have already asked the Center to reduce the GST on corona equipment like masks, gloves, sanitizers, and PPP kits. The Central Government has recently abolished the customs duty on covid testing kits, face masks, surgical masks, ventilators, and respirators imported from abroad.
