Canada Boosts French-Speaking Immigration with Major Express Entry Draw

Share

Canada is intensifying its efforts to welcome French-speaking immigrants through its Express Entry system. In a significant move for 2025, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued 6,500 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in its latest French-language draw, a sharp increase compared to previous rounds. This draw, conducted on February 19, saw the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score drop to 428, which is 38 points lower than the last French-language draw in December 2024 that issued only 800 ITAs.

This latest invitation round followed a February 17 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw, which invited 646 candidates with a much higher CRS cutoff of 750. So far in 2025, Canada has conducted multiple draws, including three for the PNP, three for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and one for French-language proficiency candidates. The tie-breaking rule for the February 19 draw was applied with a cutoff date of February 10, 2025, at 11:41 AM EST. Candidates with the same CRS score were invited only if they had submitted their Express Entry profiles before this date. This marked the 7th Express Entry draw of 2025 and the 337th overall.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a point-based system used by IRCC to assess Express Entry applicants based on skills, work experience, education, language proficiency, and other factors such as provincial nominations or job offers. The highest-scoring candidates receive invitations to apply for permanent residency under various immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Program.

For employers, hiring skilled foreign workers can be streamlined by securing a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or nominating candidates through Provincial Nominee Programs. For immigration candidates, securing a job offer remains one of the most effective ways to increase the chances of receiving an ITA in future draws. Free online assessments are available to help candidates determine their eligibility, with evaluation results typically provided within 1-2 business days.

With Canada’s growing emphasis on attracting French-speaking immigrants, this latest initiative presents a promising opportunity for Francophone professionals seeking permanent residency and career growth in the country.
