The young guns of Hyderabad IT industry have succeeded in making the first ever Car Free Thursday initiative a huge hit this morning. Thousands of IT and BPO professionals working in the Hi-Tech City and Gachibowli areas took part in this first-of-its-kind movement initiated by the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate.
With a noble cause of protecting and making the environment pollution free, the Car Free Thursday campaign encourages the IT professionals to shun their cars to officers for one day in the week. The program is a joint collaboration between the Hyderabad Software Exporters’ Association (HYSEA) and a few stakeholders.
Supporting the cause, the TSRTC increased its bus services from several parts of the city to the IT hubs like the Cyber Towers, Mind Space, Financial District etc. Apart from the buses, the IT professionals also used shared transport services to de-congest the traffic. This is not a one day affair and the HYSEA officials state that the Car Free Thursday campaign will continue throughout the year.
