CBFC Orders Last-Minute Changes for Kalki Film

The Upcoming film “Kalki 2898 AD” has received its certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Starring Superstar Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, the film has been granted a U/A certificate after undergoing scrutiny by the CBFC. Reports indicate that the film, directed by Nag Ashwin, boasts a runtime of just under three hours.

Recently, a purported CBFC certificate has surfaced online, revealing that the film was cleared with certain stipulations. According to sources, the CBFC mandated two alterations before granting its approval. The certificate highlights the insertion of a disclaimer at the beginning of the film, emphasizing its fictional nature and cinematic liberties, with no intent to offend any religious sentiments (to be included in a voiceover).

Additionally, the CBFC requested the removal of the word ‘Veedi’ in reference to Kaal Bhairava, substituting it with ‘Devudu’ in both dialogue and subtitles. Another directive included the insertion of a title card specifying ‘2898 AD’ at the beginning of a specific scene, clarifying the futuristic timeline (6000 years after Mahabharata).

The film’s trailer, released earlier this month, hinted at a futuristic interpretation of the Mahabharata saga. Set in Kaashi, a region abundant in resources, the narrative revolves around Saswata Chatterjee’s character, a ruler demanding unwavering allegiance. A prophecy foretells the birth of a child destined to overthrow him, carried by Deepika Padukone’s character, who becomes the target of the king’s wrath.

Prabhas portrays Bhairava, a skilled hunter who sees capturing her as his fate, while Amitabh Bachchan’s Ashwatthama emerges as her protector. The trailer concludes with a tantalizing glimpse of Kamal Haasan’s character, stirring anticipation among viewers for the film’s release.
