With less than six months left for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the political atmosphere in the state has begun to heat up significantly. The recent political entry of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay has further intensified discussions and speculation across party lines, adding a new dimension to the already dynamic political landscape.
Amid this backdrop, Vijay was recently summoned to appear before the CBI at its Delhi headquarters in connection with the ongoing Karur stampede investigation. This development has now taken a political turn, with the Tamil Nadu Congress raising suspicions over the timing and intent behind the probe.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Selvaperunthagai has alleged that the BJP-led central government is attempting to exert pressure on Vijay through the CBI investigation. In a public statement, he claimed that the real objective of the probe is to coerce Vijay into aligning with the NDA. According to him, central agencies are being used as tools to intimidate and influence individuals who have the potential to emerge as political alternatives.
While there has been no official indication of Vijay entering into any political alliance, including with the NDA, Selvaperunthagai stated that the BJP appears keen on drawing Vijay into its fold, given his massive popularity and growing political relevance in Tamil Nadu.
At present, the CBI inquiry involving Vijay is underway in Delhi, and all eyes are on how the investigation unfolds and what conclusions emerge. As the election season approaches, this issue is expected to further fuel political debates and speculation in the state.
