While the entire world is crazy about the iPhones and all its updated versions, the very inventor of cellular phones find them boring. Martin Cooper, the man who invented the cell phones way back in 1973 and also a previous employer at Motorola, said the latest versions of iPhones and the improvements Apple came up with do not make iPhone ‘essential’.

I think the future is software. They have to figure out ways to make the phone essential,” said Martin in an interview to GeekWire. Speaking about the smartphone industry, Martin said the services people use on their phones are “more about convenience and not necessity.”

A gadget that warns you’re about to have a heart attack is essential. We’re heading towards that about to go into that phase with smartphones,” says Martin. The pioneer of telecommunication also states that virtual reality will become a big part of computing in the future.
