The breakneck speed with which the Centre has given all clearances to Kaleshwaram project, the flagship irrigation project of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has come as a surprise to many.
In the normal course, securing clearances from the Centre is not so easy but in the case of the Telangana project, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government at the Centre showed unusual interest in giving clearances.
Even with regard to devolution of funds, the Centre is quickly clearing files of the Telangana government.
This is despite the fact that the TRS is not part of the NDA and in fact, the local BJP leaders are putting up a lot of spokes in the land acquisition for the Kaleshwaram project and questioning the KCR government.
On the other hand, the Telugu Desam Party, which is a political ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is struggling to secure funds and approvals for the projects in Andhra Pradesh.
While Kaleshwaram is very much important for Telangana, the much-awaited Polavaram project is all the more important for Andhra Pradesh, but the Centre is raising all sorts of queries over the project and is troubling chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
And with regard to construction of capital, too, there is little help from the Centre and Naidu is able to manage with just empty talk.
He has failed to secure the special category status to the state and was forced to compromise with the special package, but even the latter is not forthcoming even after one year.May be it is an indication to the BJP’s growing affinity towards the TRS and falling relations with the TDP!
