Chandrababu & Daggubati Reconcile After 30 Years

Chandrababu Naidu and Daggubati Venkateswara Rao’s political and family feud has spanned over three decades. Both being sons-in-law of former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), their paths diverged when Chandrababu took control of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), while Daggubati chose a different political course. This led to not just political rivalry but also personal estrangement between their families.

Now, after 30 years, the long-standing differences have been amicably resolved. In a significant gesture of reconciliation, both leaders shared the stage and openly acknowledged that the past was behind them. The occasion was the launch of World History, a book authored by Daggubati Venkateswara Rao, held at GITAM University in Visakhapatnam, where Chandrababu attended as the chief guest.

During his speech, Daggubati addressed the past rift, saying, “Everyone knows about our differences. That is now history. I appreciate his efforts and wish him success in his endeavors. I have chosen to let go of any ego or enmity.” His statement marked a turning point, but what followed was even more symbolic—Chandrababu Naidu pulled Daggubati in for a warm hug, patted him on the back, and lauded him for letting bygones be bygones. With this gesture, the two seasoned leaders officially buried the hatchet and put an end to their decades-long discord.

Their political journey dates back to the early days of the TDP in the 1980s, where both played crucial roles. Notably, they stood together during the 1984 August Crisis, when Nadendla Bhaskara Rao attempted to overthrow NTR. However, in the years that followed, Chandrababu steadily rose within the party ranks, whereas Daggubati moved to the sidelines. The turning point came in 1995 when Chandrababu led a successful internal coup, taking over as Chief Minister, leaving Daggubati sidelined.

Despite the political rift, Daggubati’s wife, Purandeswari, maintained cordial ties with the Nandamuri family and frequently attended family gatherings. However, Daggubati distanced himself from Chandrababu. At one point, he even joined YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) to oppose Chandrababu but failed to make a significant political impact.

Now, with old grudges set aside, Daggubati has reconciled with Chandrababu, marking a mature and positive conclusion to their long-standing rivalry. TDP supporters are welcoming this development, seeing it as a unifying moment within the party and the extended Nandamuri family.
