The local body elections in Andhra Pradesh were to be held way back in March, but got postponed due to the increasing number of Coronavirus infections in the state. The government and the AP SEC even had a major fallout regarding this issue.
Opposition leader and TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu has now demanded the SEC to issue a brand new notification regarding the general body elections. He has said that online nominations should be introduced to make sure that no single person is intimated.
Chandrababu Naidu also said that the ruling YSRCP had intimidated and threatened people the last time around, to make sure that they dominated the elections, and that they won the most number of seats. He also added that polling should be done amidst tight security, provided by the Central government, during these elections.
The SEC has been planning to conduct the local body elections in the state for quite some time now, but an official notification is yet to be released. On the other hand, the government doesn’t seem very pleased to go ahead with the local body elections right now. It is now to be seen what will happen.
