Chandrababu Joins BJP’s Delhi Campaign, Pawan Kalyan Skips

As the Delhi Assembly elections approach, all eyes are on the political dynamics in the national capital. In a strategic move, BJP enlisted Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to aid their campaign, and he took part in rallies across Delhi yesterday. However, there was a noticeable absence of Pawan Kalyan, who had been rumored to accompany Naidu and campaign for BJP candidates. Despite initial reports suggesting he would join the effort, Pawan Kalyan opted not to take part, sparking curiosity about his political stance.

Arvind Kejriwal remains one of the few politicians in India who enjoys a largely positive image among the masses. Even some neutral voters from Andhra Pradesh were critical of Naidu’s decision to campaign against Kejriwal’s AAP. Although Naidu was fulfilling his commitment to the NDA, many felt uneasy about his participation in the Delhi campaign. During his speech, Naidu took aim at Kejriwal, accusing him of using public funds to build a lavish “Sesha Mahal,” drawing comparisons to YS Jagan’s Rushikonda Palace in Andhra Pradesh. He called on the people of Delhi to “uproot” Kejriwal’s government, much like the people of Andhra Pradesh had done with Jagan’s government. Naidu also remarked that the current state of Delhi reminded him of Hyderabad’s underperformance in 1995.

Despite these harsh words, political analysts point out that Kejriwal has been a consistent supporter of Naidu in the past. During the 2019 elections, Kejriwal stood by Naidu during his protest against Modi in Delhi, even campaigning in Sikh-dominated regions of Vijayawada out of respect for the TDP chief. Given this history, some TDP loyalists feel Naidu should have reconsidered his decision to campaign against Kejriwal. On the other hand, there is growing support for Pawan Kalyan’s decision to avoid the Delhi campaign, as it allowed him to maintain neutrality and avoid direct confrontation with Kejriwal.

As Andhra Pradesh’s general elections draw closer, these political moves could have far-reaching consequences. Naidu’s involvement in BJP’s Delhi campaign might impact his standing in AP, while Pawan Kalyan’s calculated detachment may strengthen his position within his own party and with voters who value neutrality. Only time will reveal the full impact of these decisions.
