As the Andhra Pradesh Assembly sessions near their conclusion, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is making the most of the remaining time to address key issues. In a bold and self-reflective moment, Naidu openly took responsibility for his party’s electoral defeats in 2004 and 2019, emphasizing that no external force defeated him—rather, it was his own oversight and leadership decisions that led to those losses.
Speaking in the Assembly, Naidu admitted that his intense focus on governance and administrative duties had inadvertently impacted the morale of his party cadre and MLAs.
“It was my failure that led to our losses in 2004 and 2019. I was fully immersed in my Chief Ministerial responsibilities and could not coordinate effectively with MLAs and party workers. This lack of engagement weakened our party’s grassroots connection, and I take full responsibility for it. However, this term will be different—I will be actively present with the cadres at all times,” Naidu asserted.
He further emphasized that winning elections is not just about political strategy, but about providing permanent solutions to public grievances. “If we focus on resolving people’s issues effectively, there will be no question of defeat in future elections. That is our primary objective this term,” Naidu stated.
His candid acknowledgment of past mistakes contrasts sharply with the YSR Congress Party’s stance. While YCP leaders continue to blame EVMs and party mismanagement for their 2024 election loss, Naidu’s proactive reflection and acceptance of responsibility stands out as an example of strong leadership.
However, the real challenge now lies in translating words into action. As some TDP activists have pointed out, Naidu must consistently engage with his party cadres and ensure their support is reinforced. Only then can he prevent a repeat of 2004 and 2019 in the 2029 elections.
