After almost a year, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is set to hold a crucial meeting with key members of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce and other prominent industry figures at his residence in Vijayawada. The meeting, scheduled for the evening of June 15, is expected to address several pressing issues currently impacting the Telugu film industry.
“The Chief Minister’s support is crucial for the survival and growth of the Telugu film sector, especially considering that Andhra Pradesh contributes nearly 70 percent of the revenue generated by big-budget Telugu films,” a source stated. In light of the significance of this high-level interaction, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce has reportedly postponed its internal panel meeting, which was also scheduled for the same day.
Adding further importance to the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister and Tollywood star Pawan Kalyan is also expected to participate in the discussions. “Pawan Kalyan will be guiding the filmmakers during these talks,” the source added. Notably, it was Pawan Kalyan’s earlier letter that spurred the industry into action, questioning why film trade bodies had not yet sought an audience with the newly formed AP government. “When some exhibitors had approached him previously, Pawan advised them to first meet the Chief Minister, assuring them of his full support once that protocol was followed,” the source revealed.
The timing of this meeting is particularly significant as it follows the Telangana government’s Gadar Cine Awards ceremony on June 14, which celebrates achievers from the Telugu film fraternity. Industry leaders are also expected to request the Andhra Pradesh government to reinstate the prestigious Nandi Awards, which have long been a symbol of excellence in Telugu cinema.
Among the major issues on the agenda are the cap on ticket prices, escalating theatre maintenance costs, and several policy matters that are currently affecting the film business in Andhra Pradesh.
