Chandrababu Naidu’s Campaign Helps BJP Win Shahdara After 32 Years

The BJP registered a massive victory in Delhi, winning 48 out of 70 seats in the state elections. With the polls carrying significant political weight, the BJP left no stone unturned in its campaign, even seeking support from its allies to sway voters.

As a key ally of the BJP-led NDA government, TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu played an active role in the campaign. Notably, his efforts yielded a remarkable outcome in the Shahdara constituency, where the BJP secured victory for the first time in 32 years.

Naidu campaigned in multiple constituencies, including Shahdara, where he urged voters to support BJP candidate Sanjay Goyal. When the votes were counted on February 8, Goyal emerged victorious, marking a historic win for the BJP in the constituency.

Shahdara last witnessed a BJP win in 1993 when Ramnivas Goyal won on the party’s ticket. The seat was then dominated by the Congress in the 1998, 2003, and 2008 elections, followed by Shiromani Akali Dal in 2013. In 2015 and 2020, AAP candidates secured back-to-back victories.

During his campaign, Sanjay Goyal alleged that the AAP candidate was focused on distributing liquor rather than addressing people’s issues. He also assured that, if elected, he would work towards resolving the concerns of Andhraites residing in the constituency, consulting Chandrababu Naidu, who, he believed, understood their needs better.

Naidu’s influence in Shahdara proved instrumental in breaking a decades-long losing streak for the BJP, adding another milestone to the party’s sweeping success in Delhi.
