Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has set a remarkable record by attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos ten times, with this year marking his milestone 10th visit. Among South Indian leaders, Naidu stands alone in his consistent participation at this prestigious global summit.
In contrast, former IT Minister Gudivada Amarnath from the YSR Congress Party made headlines for his dismissive remarks about the Davos summit. When questioned in 2023 about why the YSRCP government was not leveraging the WEF platform, Amarnath infamously quipped, “Davos lo chali ekkuva” (It’s too cold in Davos), referring to the sub-zero temperatures that often range between -5°C and -10°C. He also criticized Naidu, alleging that despite attending the summit multiple times, he failed to bring tangible benefits to Andhra Pradesh.
However, the significance of the Davos summit lies in its unparalleled ability to position Andhra Pradesh as a global investment destination. It offers a platform to engage directly with international business leaders and forge relationships with global giants—an opportunity far more efficient than visiting each country individually. Recognizing this, Naidu, at the age of 74, continues to prioritize the summit, underlining his commitment to elevating Andhra Pradesh on the global stage.
Interestingly, the YSRCP’s stance on the WEF has evolved over time. While Amarnath once downplayed its importance, the current administration, under Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, has taken steps to ensure representation at the summit. However, Jagan himself has attended the event only once, in 2022. Meanwhile, Telangana’s former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) did not participate in the summit during his tenure.
Naidu’s dedication to Davos underscores his vision for Andhra Pradesh, contrasting with the varied approaches of other leaders in utilizing global platforms for the state’s development.
