Two days after a long meeting (one-and-a-half hour meeting) with Governor ESL Narasimhan who reportedly, allegedly told Naidu to ‘support’ Centre, Chandrababu Naidu has dropped a bomb. Perhaps, like no other Chief Minister today, Chandrababu has demanded for abolishment of Governor system.
After a section of reports that Governor ESL Narasimhan advised Chandrababu to ‘tone down’ his comments against the Centre and not campaign against the BJP in poll-bound Karnataka, Chandrababu’s fresh comments against Governor and Governor system gained significance. Chandrababu has indicated that Governor should ‘stick’ to rule book and shouldn’t act as per ‘whims’ and ‘fancies’ of the ruling BJP. Further more, Chandrababu alleged that Governor ESL Narsimhan is “rallying” Opposition parties (read as Janasena, YSRCP) against Telugu Desam Party. Naidu has fumed over Governor for his “partisan” manner. Demanding the abolishment of Governor system, Chandrababu recalled that Telugu Desam Party has always raised its voice against Governor system and has been demanding for abolishing the system for well-functioning of Federal system. “TDP is always against to the practice of making Governors as the agents of the Centre from longtime. It is nothing but abuse of office,” said Chandrababu while addressing a large gathering in Dwarapudi in East Godavari district.
Chandrababu reminisced about Governor Ram Lal who was behind dethroning of then CM NT Rama Rao in August 1984. Naidu said Indira Gandhi had tried to use Governor System against state governments and tasted severe set back from the people. He indicated that people would repeat the same for Modi government.
Speaking at the public meeting, Chandrababu lashed out at Modi-led NDA for its gross injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh. He said Modi has ‘cheated’ people of AP by not fulfilling promises made to AP in Tirupati, Amaravati. Chandrababu also said BJP failed to keep its vows it made on floor of the parliament during AP Reorganization Act and also its promises it made in its manifesto.
Meanwhile, Governor Narasimhan has left to New Delhi yesterday to meet PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday (Today). With this, Chandrababu’s comments on Governor System and Narsimhan grabbed attention of national media thus pushing BJP into soup.
