OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT Go, its budget-friendly ₹399 per month subscription plan, will be made free for users in India for a limited time. The offer begins on November 4, 2025, and applies to users who sign up on or after that date. Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers will also receive an additional 12 months of free access, with redemption details to be shared later.
The announcement comes ahead of OpenAI’s DevDay Exchange event being held in Bengaluru.
“Ahead of our first DevDay Exchange event in India, we’re making ChatGPT Go freely available for a year to help more people across India easily access and benefit from advanced AI,” said Nick Turley, VP and Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI.
The move marks another step in OpenAI’s expanding presence in India. The company recently opened its first office in New Delhi, hired leadership for its education-focused initiatives in the country, and has been actively recruiting for sales roles. It has also rolled out broad promotional campaigns across billboards and digital platforms.
OpenAI said the offer reinforces its “India-first” commitment and aligns with India’s IndiaAI Mission, as the country prepares to host the AI Impact Summit next year.
Launched in August, ChatGPT Go provides higher messaging limits and “expanded access” to GPT-5, though with fewer features than the Plus and Pro plans (priced at ₹1,999 and ₹19,990 per month). The company says the Go plan has already seen strong adoption, with paid ChatGPT subscriptions in India more than doubling in the month since launch. The plan is now available in nearly 90 global markets.
