As the iconic socio-fantasy classic Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (JVAS) gears up for a grand re-release on May 9, marking its 35th anniversary, excitement among fans is running high. Adding to the buzz, Megastar Chiranjeevi has now sparked new hopes about a potential sequel to the legendary film.
Years ago, the film’s original producer, Ashwini Dutt, expressed interest in crafting a sequel with Ram Charan in the lead. While the idea didn’t materialize back then, Chiranjeevi has reignited that dream by publicly expressing his desire to see a sequel come to life—with Ram Charan as the hero and Janhvi Kapoor, daughter of the late Sridevi, as the heroine.
Chiranjeevi further added that JVAS director K. Raghavendra Rao should be involved as the direction supervisor, while acclaimed filmmaker Nag Ashwin should take the helm as director. He also envisioned the sequel being produced by Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt under the prestigious Vyjayanthi Movies banner.
However, the Megastar acknowledged the challenge that comes with revisiting a timeless classic. “The story and screenplay must surpass the original. While we have the technical brilliance today to go beyond what we achieved back then, it’s the story that needs to be stronger,” he said.
Sources close to the production circle suggest that if such a story is found, Swapna and Priyanka would greenlight the film without hesitation. With Chiranjeevi’s vision now out in the open, all eyes are on whether Nag Ashwin or Raghavendra Rao can craft a compelling sequel worthy of the original’s legacy.
If everything falls into place, the JVAS sequel could shape up to be one of the most anticipated projects in Telugu cinema history.
