State BJP president G Kishan Reddy has said the State government, which was not spending funds, has no moral right to impose taxes on the people.
Speaking to the media here on Friday, Kishan Reddy said the people were suffering a lot due to the menacing power cut and drinking water problems. Alleging that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was consuming all the time on how to protect his seat and how to impose taxes on the people, the BJP leader has alleged that the much trumpeted ‘Jalayagnam’ has turned out to be a ‘Dhana yagnam’ (minting money) for the greedy contractors and the ruling party leaders. Stating that the government had wasted Rs 85,000 crores of public money in the name of ‘Jalayagnam’, Kishan Reddy said not a single project was completed so far and there was not even a watchman at the project site now.
Alleging that the drinking water problem was severe in the villages, Kishan Reddy said the people were facing hardships to get a pail of water. Alleging that rural population in the State were spending sleepless dark nights due to power cut.
The BJP leader said the people were also suffering from health problems due to lack of sanitation as there were no elected representatives in the local bodies to set right the worsening situation. While the living conditions in the villages were horrible, the Chief Minister was always immersed in thoughts as to how to protect his seat, woo the MLAs and how to impose taxes on the people sitting in the Secretariat, he added.
Pointing out that investments were not coming to the State as industrialists were not happy with the political atmosphere, he said while Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi spread a red carpet to the industrialists, Kiran Kumar Reddy was showing red signal to them.
Alleging that Kiran Kumar Reddy government was the only government that imposed VAT on cloth, he said the State government was not in a position even to spend the Central funds. “Therefore, this government has no right to impose taxes on the people”. Stating that AP stood in the last row in spending Central funds, he asked the State government how the Centre would release fresh funds when it failed to spend the last year’s grant. He said the BJP would oppose the government’s proposal of include the Muslims in BCs for providing reservations to them in the local body elections. He also asked all the political parties to oppose “this political move” of the State government.
