AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has inaugurated the Orvakal Airport in Kurnool district today, which was built by the state government. Along with the CM, Union Minister P Hardeep Singh had attended the inauguration event of the new Airport.

CM Jagan, along with the Union Minister, opened the airport and dedicated it to the nation. First, the national flag was unveiled by the CM and then the statue of the late CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Notably, the AP government has named this airport after the first-ever Freedom Fighter of India Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy.

With Jagan naming the airport after Narasimha Reddy, Megastar Chiranjeevi, who played the role of the freedom fighter in his pan-India film Sye Raa, has welcomed CM Jagan’s move. He took to Twitter and said that it was fortunate & honoured to play the great soul on screen.

Speaking about the airport, Indigo will operate services from Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Bangalore and Kurnool from March 28. The airport was completed on 1,008 acres for Rs 153 crore. The DGCA issued the license on January 15, 2021 to start the flight services. The BCAS security clearance was granted on January 27. The 2,000 metres long and 30-metre wide runway was developed. All types of infrastructure were provided, along with parking for the four aircraft.

This will be the sixth civilian airport in the State after Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Vijayawada (all three international) and Rajamahendravaram and Kadapa (domestic). The airport has been categorized as ‘3C’ and can handle turboprop aircraft like ATR-72 and Bombardier Q-400.
