The Andhra Pradesh government is reportedly looking for the perfect time and muhurtam to shift the capital to Visakhapatnam, by shifting the Chief Minister’s office, and the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat to Visakhapatnam. A detailed discussion about the same is expected to be held on February 23rd, during the cabinet meeting.
Andhra Pradesh High Court’s stay orders, cases filed against the shifting of the capital by Amaravati farmers and opposition parties are still pending in the AP High Court, which might turn out to be a major problem for the government for the shifting of the capital.
However, the government has been very firm about wanting to shift the capital to Visakhapatnam at any cost, for a long time now. If the CMO and the secretariat are shifted to Visakhapatnam, then the city will undoubtedly become the executive capital.
Apart from this, there’s also the fact that there are protests currently going on, against the privatisation of the Visakha Steel plant, in Visakhapatnam. Ever since the centre announced the idea of privatising the steel plant, a state of unrest has been prevalent in the city. Added to that is that the CM has made no official statement on this issue, which has not gone down well with many people. The Chief Minister has only written a letter to the PM so far, requesting the Steel plant to not be privatised. Jagan has been heavily criticised for just writing a letter, and not acting out on the issue.
Considering all of these factors, it is now to be seen what the government’s plan will be, and what will be done, regarding the shifting of the capital.
