Sai Pallavi’s Ek Din: A Heartfelt Love Story with a Memory Twist

South India’s most versatile actresses in recent times, Sai Pallavi, is all set to step into Bollywood with her debut film Ek Din. The movie stars Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, in the lead role alongside her. The makers have unveiled the theatrical trailer today, and it promises an emotional love story with a tragic undertone.
Sai Pallavi, who made a memorable debut with the Malayalam blockbuster Premam in 2015, returns to a somewhat similar emotional space with Ek Din. In Premam, she played a teacher whose love story ends heartbreakingly after she loses her memory in an accident. Now, in her Bollywood debut, she once again portrays a character dealing with memory loss—but with a unique twist.
In Ek Din, Sai Pallavi’s character suffers from a rare condition called transient global amnesia, where she loses her memory for a day. Each day, she forgets what happened the previous day, only to regain her past memories the next morning—creating an emotional loop that deeply impacts her life and relationships.
Junaid Khan plays an introverted techie working in a corporate company, who silently admires Pallavi’s character. The story takes a turn when the team travels to Japan, where he discovers that she is in a relationship with their boss, played by Kunal Kapoor. However, after a series of unexpected events and an accident, he learns about her condition and chooses to stand by her, becoming her emotional anchor.
The narrative then unfolds as a tender and challenging love story, exploring how their bond grows despite the constant resets in her memory. The trailer hints at several touching moments, complemented by a soulful background score that enhances the emotional depth.
Sai Pallavi appears perfectly cast, bringing her natural charm and expressive performance to the role. Junaid Khan, on the other hand, looks convincing as a shy and reserved techie. Overall, Ek Din seems like a refreshing romantic drama—something Bollywood hasn’t offered much in recent years.
The film is slated for release on May 1, and it remains to be seen whether this heartfelt story resonates with audiences.
