The ‘cold war’ between Telangana CM KCR and newly-appointed Governor of Telangana Tamilisai Soundarrajan seems to have begun even before she assumed office.
As soon as the news broke about Governor Narasimhan’s exit and Soundarrajan’s entry, KCR rushed to Raj Bhavan and requested him to issue notification convening Assembly Budget session from September 9.
Initially, KCR proposed to start Budget session from September 14 after Ganesh nimajjan on September 12, as entire police machinery will be busy with security arrangements for nimajjan.
However, with Soundarrajan’s appointment on August 31, KCR rushed to Rajbhavan to meet Narasimhan and requested him to issue a notification convening Assembly session from September 9.
Why KCR hurried to convene Assembly session at such a short notice? According to TRS sources KCR wanted to ensure that the notification is issued even before new Governor takes charge.
KCR has also decided to skip customary Governor’s address to joint session of Legislative Assembly and Council before the commencement of Budget session.
KCR is arguing that there is no need to have customary address again as Narasimhan had already addressed joint session in February this year when vote-on-account budget was presented.
But then President Kovind had addressed joint session of Parliament in January during vote-on-account budget and also in June when full-fledged budget was presented.
Since Soundarrajan is a hardcore BJP leaders, KCR fears that she may not read the written text copy sent by KCR on the achivements of TRS government and she may not heap praises on TRS government.
To avoid this, KCR has hurriedly met Narasimhan and ensured notification is released even before Narasimhan quits and Soundarrajan joins.
It remains to be seen how the new Governor will react on KCR hurriedly convening Assembly session and skipping Governor’s address to joint session.
If this is the situation between KCR and Soundarrajan even before new governor takes charge, one can easily expect more fireworks between the two in the next four years.
