Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has found himself in legal trouble after a complaint was filed against him in the Kota Consumer Court, alleging that advertisements for a popular pan masala brand endorsed by him are misleading.
The complaint was lodged by senior BJP leader and Rajasthan High Court advocate Inder Mohan Singh Honey, who has sought a ban on such advertisements. Acting on the plea, the Kota Consumer Court has issued notices to Salman Khan and sought a formal response.
According to the complaint, the company manufacturing Rajshree Pan Masala and its brand ambassador, Salman Khan, have been misleading consumers by promoting the product as containing “saffron-infused cardamom” and “saffron-infused pan masala.” The petitioner argued that the claim is illogical, as saffron, which costs nearly ₹4 lakh per kilogram, cannot realistically be used in a product priced at just ₹5.
The complaint also highlights the public health impact of such advertising, stating that misleading promotions could influence young people to consume pan masala—an addictive product linked to rising cancer cases. “Salman Khan is a role model for many. Such endorsements send the wrong message to the youth,” said Advocate Inder Mohan Singh Honey.
