Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji Trailer Sparks Historical Controversy

Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh is stepping into multiple roles as actor, director, and producer for his upcoming historical drama “Raja Shivaji.” However, the film has already sparked controversy following the release of its trailer, which received mixed reactions online.
The issue arose after a scene featuring Sanjay Dutt and the depiction of the iconic Wagh Nakh drew criticism on social media. A user questioned the historical accuracy, asking whether Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had displayed the Wagh Nakh to Afzal Khan, arguing that it only came into use after Afzal Khan’s attack. The post further accused the makers of distorting Maharashtra’s history and legacy.
Responding directly on X, Riteish Deshmukh re-shared the criticism and replied, “Respected Sir, please watch the film on 1st May… the answer to your question is there in the movie. I hope you enjoy the film with your friends and family. Jai Shivrai.”
The film is produced by Genelia D’Souza and Jyoti Deshpande and features a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Amole Gupte, and Genelia. “Raja Shivaji” is scheduled for a theatrical release in Marathi and Hindi on May 1.
