Zootopia 2 Breaks Records with Massive China Box Office

Indian movie lovers have always been quick to embrace content from around the world, irrespective of language, genre, or format. In contrast, the Chinese market has traditionally been less receptive to foreign films. Yet, surprisingly, a Hollywood animated film is now breaking records in China: Zootopia 2.
The film made a staggering $556 million at the global box office during its opening weekend, with a single-day collection in China exceeding ₹925 crore. Produced on a budget of around $150 million, Zootopia 2 holds the record for the highest budget ever for an animated film and also recorded the biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood film in China.
In just four days, the film has already grossed $200 million, making it one of the fastest-grossing Hollywood releases in the Chinese market. This success is particularly remarkable given that animated films traditionally target a smaller audience, and the Chinese market has not historically been very receptive to them. Yet, Zootopia 2 is shattering expectations and setting new box office milestones.
The film follows detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they chase a mysterious reptile that throws the mammal metropolis of Zootopia into chaos. Testing their partnership like never before, they go undercover in new parts of the city to crack the case, delivering an engaging mix of action, humor, and adventure that has clearly resonated with audiences worldwide.
