Covid-19: Lockdown in Delhi extended by another week

Amid rapidly increasing Covid-19 infections in the national capital, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced the extension of the lockdown by yet another week. The lockdown was supposed to end at 5 AM on Monday.

Due to the rising cases of Covid-19, Delhi has been under complete lockdown since April 19 to curb a fresh wave of infections. Notably, this is the second time that the lockdown in the national capital is extended by another week.

The development comes when Delhi recorded more than 27,000 fresh cases and 375 deaths in 24 hours. With the addition of recent deaths, the total death toll in the state rose to 16,147, the second highest in the country after Maharashtra. Apparently, Delhi is registering over 20,000 cases per day for the past 13 days in a row.
