Covid-19: Night curfew extended in Telangana till May 8

In the wake of the rising Covid-19 cases across the state, the Telangana government on Friday extended the night curfew in the state for seven more days till 5 am on May 8.

In a statement, the state government led by CM KCR said that the night curfew will begin at 9 pm and continue till 5 am.

The extension of the night curfew comes a day after the Telangana High Court asked the state government whether it would impose lockdown or extend the night curfew.

A division bench of Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy, wanted to know the state’s decision as the night curfew ends on Friday. The bench directed the Govt to inform the decision by Friday morning. The HC had also ordered the state to be on alert to the current situation in Telangana.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Telangana reported over 7,600 cases and 53 deaths that pushed the total caseload and death toll in the state to 4.35 lakh and 2,261 respectively.
