Cricketers on strike, India Tour In Doubt!

Tough times are being faced by Bangladesh Cricket Board as all Bangladesh cricketers went on a strike from all cricket forms after submitting an 11-point demand. Cricketers stated that the strike will continue until their demands are met. Some of the paramount demands were to increase pay scale and practice facilities in Dhaka Premier League, National Cricket League and Bangladesh Premier League.

The walkout has been announced at the academy ground press conference in Mirpur. Nearly 50 players have come forward to speak and Shakib al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah were among them. The team also urged women cricketers to come forward and voice their problems. The 11 points were each stated by 11 players.

The demands go like – the current committee of Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) must resign immediately, the old method should be followed in the players’ transfer of Premier League, giving freedom to choose a team, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) must be organized, the match fee for first-class matches should be Tk1 lac and coaches should be provided year-long practice facilities in every division.

The meager Tk1,500 as daily allowance must be increased. Plane fares should be provided, The number of contracted players and their salaries must be increased, along with salaries of local staff members, coaches, ground staff, umpires. The dues of DPL must be paid on time. This strike has now made Bangladesh’s upcoming tour of India in stake. Bangladesh are scheduled to tour India for a three-match Twenty20 International series and a two-Test series, which starts on November 3.
