Life is like a rollercoaster, filled with ups and downs, and Bollywood star Deepika Padukone knows this all too well. Speaking at the 8th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2025, an initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help students handle exam stress, Deepika shared her personal battle with depression, encouraging students to prioritize mental health and seek support when needed.
Addressing the immense academic pressure faced by students, Deepika urged them to open up to their parents, friends, and teachers rather than struggling in silence. She recalled her own experience in 2014 when, despite her successful career, she felt a deep sense of emptiness. Living alone in Mumbai, she couldn’t initially identify what was wrong until a conversation with her mother made her realize she needed help. That pivotal moment led her to seek professional support, a decision that ultimately transformed her life.
Deepika emphasized that mental health struggles are often invisible, and just because someone looks fine on the outside doesn’t mean they aren’t battling inner turmoil. “The moment I shared my pain, I felt lighter. Talking about it is the first step to healing,” she said, reinforcing that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Through her journey, Deepika hopes to inspire more people to break the silence around mental health, embrace self-care, and support those in need. As she rightly put it, just as night gives way to a new dawn, mental health challenges can be overcome with awareness, understanding, and the courage to speak up.
