Deepika Padukone Reignites Debate on 8-Hour Workday in Film Industry

Deepika Padukone has once again brought the discussion on work–life balance in the Indian film industry to the forefront. After embracing motherhood and preparing for a professional comeback, the actor reportedly insisted on an 8-hour workday when filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga approached her for Spirit. Her stance led the director to reconsider casting her, sparking a wider debate across the industry.

While many voiced support, especially for new mothers navigating demanding careers, others argued that filmmaking is an unpredictable, creative field that cannot always operate within fixed hours.

In a recent interview, Deepika reaffirmed her belief that even the film industry should adopt an 8-hour workday. She emphasised that sleep, exercise, and nutritious food are essential pillars of a healthy life and should be non-negotiable for everyone. She urged production houses and organisations to create structured schedules that respect fixed working hours.

Deepika is currently working on two major projects: Shah Rukh Khan’s King and the Allu Arjun–Atlee untitled film.
