Delhi High Court severely condemns Jagan’s letter to CJI

Just a few days ago, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had written a letter to the Chief Justice of India, S A Bobde, accusing Supreme Court Sitting Judge N V Ramana of partiality towards the TDP and its chief Chandrababu Naidu.

In his letter, Jagan also said that Ramana was controlling the decisions taken and judgements being given by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He also stated that the AP High Court is allocating the cases related to the TDP to only a few selective judges, and accused all the five sitting judges of the AP HC of bias towards the TDP.

Considering that Ramana is next in line to be the CJI, in April 2021, after Bobde’s retirement, the Delhi High Court has reacted strongly against the accusations that Jagan made in his letter, against Ramana and the entire system of the Judiciary. The Delhi High Court stated that it considers this letter to be a direct attack against the independence of the judiciary, and has straight out stated that it absolutely and completely considers the letter written by Jagan to be of poor taste, and demeaning.

Lawyer Sunil Kumar Singh has also filed a petition against Jagan, in which he has requested the Supreme Court to issue a show-cause notice to Jagan, against his frivolous accusations against Ramana, and several judges, and also the judicial system on a whole.

On the other hand, several members of the judiciary feel that Jagan’s letter and his accusations are to be taken with a pinch of salt, and to not be taken seriously at all, given that he himself is involved in many cases.
