Dil Raju Plans Box Office Tracking for Telugu Cinema
In the world of cinema, debates around box office numbers are never-ending. Despite the abundance of portals reporting domestic collections, the authenticity of these figures often remains questionable. In India, and particularly in the Telugu film industry, producers frequently state that only they have access to the actual collection data.
However, the situation overseas is far more transparent. In major markets like the United States — a key overseas territory for Telugu films — established tracking systems like Comscore provide near real-time updates on box office numbers, including location-wise breakdowns. This level of accuracy and transparency is something the Indian industry has long struggled to achieve.
Addressing this issue at the Thammudu trailer launch event, TFDC chairman and producer Dil Raju spoke about the need for a similar system in India. Drawing inspiration from the U.S. model, he revealed that he has proposed the immediate implementation of a box office tracking system in Telangana during a recent Ministerial Sub-Committee meeting with Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Batti Vikramarka. “We will soon have a proper box office tracking system in place,” Dil Raju stated, signaling a major step forward for industry accountability.
Dil Raju also tackled another growing problem: artificially inflated YouTube views. He emphasized that many teasers and trailers accumulate inorganic views through paid promotions. As a corrective measure, he promised that only organic views would be considered moving forward, starting with the Thammudu trailer that was launched at the event.
The veteran producer, who faced severe trolling in the past over the highly controversial box office figures of Ram Charan’s Game Changer, admitted that some of those numbers were released under external pressure. Now, Dil Raju seems determined to rebuild trust and bring credibility back to both box office reporting and digital viewership metrics.
Thammudu is gearing up for a grand release on July 4th, featuring Nithiin and Sapthami Gowda in lead roles, and marking the comeback of actress Laya. The film is directed by Venu Sriram, known for his previous success Vakeel Saab starring Pawan Kalyan.
